Silently waiting upon God
Text: Text : Psalm 62
16 July 2006
(I) The challenges of waiting upon God
1. Living in an “instant” world
2. Tendency for us to be impatient
3. Filled with frustrations while waiting
4. We would end up complaining
(II) The concept of waiting silently upon God
1. Initial understanding of waiting upon God
“Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.” Psalm 62:1-2
a. Calmness of the soul in waiting
b. Patience in waiting
c. Exercise trust in the Lord
2. Deeper understanding of waiting upon God
a. Exclusive focus on the Lord
“Truly my soul silently waits for God;” Psalm 62:1
“My soul, wait silently for God alone,” Psalm 62: 5
b. Great Expectation from the Lord
“For my expectation is from Him.” Psalm 62:5
c. Eradication of “being moved”
“He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.” Psalm 62:2
“He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.” Psalm 62:6
d. Experience of God in our lives
“In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.” Psalm 92:7
(III) Confident trust in waiting upon the Lord
1. Our trust in the Lord is confidently declared to others
“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:8
2. Not placed in any other person or thing
a. Men
“Surely men of low degree are a vapor, men of high degree are a lie; if they are weighed on the scales, they are altogether lighter than vapor.” Psalm 62:9
b. Oppression
“Do not trust in oppression,” Psalm 62:10
c. Robbery
“Nor vainly hope in robbery;” Psalm 62:10
d. Riches
“If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.” Psalm 62:10
3. A most certain trust in God
Let’s choose to trust the Lord instead. We have a most certain trust in the Lord..
a. Based on the Lord’s Word
“God has spoken once, twice I have heard this:” Psalm 62:11
b. Based on His power
“God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God.” Psalm 62:11
c. Based on His mercy
“Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work.” Psalm 62:12
