The Whole Earth is Full of His Glory

Text: Isaiah 6

A SERIES OF WOES

1. Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity
And sin as if with a cart rope   (Isaiah 5:18)

2. Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil
Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness
Who put bitter for sweet,
And sweet for bitter!   (Isaiah 5:20)

3. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
And prudent in their own sight!   (Isaiah 5:21)

4. Woe to men mighty at drinking wine,
Woe to men valiant for mixing intoxicating drink
Who justify the wicked for a bribe,
And take away justice from the righteous man!   (Isaiah 5:22-23)

THE ANGER OF THE LORD

1. They have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts   (Isaiah 5:24)

2. They have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel   (Isaiah 5:24)

3. The anger of the LORD is not turned away   (Isaiah 5:25)

4. His hand is outstretched still   (Isaiah 5:25)

A SPECIAL VISION GIVEN TO THE PROPHET ISAIAH

1. A vision of the Lord sitting on a throne   (Isaiah 6:1)

a) High and lifted up
b) The train of His robe filled the temple

2. The presence of angels

a) These are called “seraphim”   (Isaiah 6:2)
b) Six wings   (Isaiah 6:2)

c) And one cried to another and said:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts
The whole earth is full of His glory!”   Isaiah 6:3

THE MEANING OF THEIR CRY

1. The earth is indeed full of the glory of God   (Psalm 19)

2. But sinful mankind is not able to see the glory of God

ISAIAH’S RESPONSE IS BOTH PERSONAL AND SYMBOLIC

1. Woe is me

2. I am undone

3. I am a man of unclean lips

4. I dwell in the midst of people of unclean lips

WHAT IS NEEDED TO SEE THE GLORY OF THE LORD

1. Cleansing

a) Iniquity must be taken away
b) Sin must be purged   (Isaiah 6:7)

2. Challenge

a) Whom shall I send?
b) Who will go for us?   (Isaiah 6:8)

3. Commissioned

a) Here am I! Send me   (Isaiah 6:8)
b) Go   (Isaiah 6:9)
c) Tell   (Isaiah 6:9)
