ALL WERE AMAZED AND GLORIFIED GOD
Text: TEXT : MARK 2
2 November 2008
(I) THE PLAN FOR MAN TO GIVE GLORY TO GOD
1. Found in the Old Testament
“Give unto the LORD, O you mighty ones, Give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” Psalm 29:1
“Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD!” Psalm 105:2, 3
2. Focus in the New Testament…giving glory for the Messiah
(II) AN AMAZING PROCLAMATION OF JESUS TO GIVE GLORY FOR
“When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, ‘Son, your sins are forgiven you.’ ” Mark 2:5
1. One of the attempts to reveal Himself to the people
2. Amazing proclamation of the forgiveness of sins to the paralytic
3. A far greater need to forgive than to heal.
4. Should have understood and given glory that Jesus indeed could forgive as the Messiah
(III) THE ADVERSE PROBLEM OF NOT BEING ABLE TO GIVE GLORY TO GOD
“And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, ‘Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?’ ” Mark 2:6, 7
1. Traditional reasoning
2. Blinded by their reasoning
3. Taken the forgiveness of sin for granted
(IV) THE AWESOME POWER OF THE LORD
1. The power to see the heart of man
“But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, ‘Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?
Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? ” Mark 2:8, 9
2. The power to forgive and to heal
” ‘But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins’—He said to the paralytic, ‘I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.’ Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all…” Mark 2:10-12
(V) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE OF GLORIFYING GOD
“…so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, ‘We never saw anything like this!’ ” Mark 2:12
1. Experience unprecedented discovery of the power of the Lord Jesus
2. Great amazement of who Jesus is
3. All responding with glorifying the Lord
