“SONS OF GOD THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS”


(I) A SIGNIFICANT TITLE

1. Title: “Sons of God”

a) Used to describe angels (Job 1:6)

b) Used to describe God’s people (2 Corinthians 6:16-18)

i) The Lord is their God

ii) The believers are His people

iii) They are God’s sons and daughters


2. Restrictive title

a) Used mainly with reference to Israel

b) Not used with reference to Gentiles

 

(II) A NEW PERSPECTIVE OF THIS TITLE

1. Through faith

a) Sons of Abraham

“Sons of Abraham” Galatians 3:7

b) Sons of God

“Sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus” Galatians 3:26


2. Through faith the blessings of Abraham are inherited

“Those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham” Galatians 3:9


3. Through faith

a) The blessing of Abraham comes upon Gentiles who believe in Christ (Galatians 3:14)

b) The Spirit of promise is received (Galatians 3:14)

 

(III) RAMIFICATIONS OF BELIEVING IN CHRIST

1. Baptised into Christ (Galatians 3:27)

2. Have put on Christ (Galatians 3:27)

3. Abraham’s seed (Galatians 3:29)

4. Heirs according to the Promise (Galatians 3:29)
