(I) CLASSIC STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE PROMISES OF GOD

1. Exceedingly great and precious promises

“By which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world through lust” 2 Peter 1:4

2. Better promises

“But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also the Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.” Hebrews 8:6

3. All the promises of God in Christ

“For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.” 2 Corinthians 1:20

(II) CONTENT OF THESE PROMISES

1. The promise of being established (2 Corinthians 1:21)

2. The promise of being anointed (2 Corinthians 1:21)

3. The promise of being sealed (2 Corinthians 1:22)

4. The promise of a guarantee (2 Corinthians 1:22)

5. The promise of being partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4)

6. The promise of a better covenant (Hebrews 8:6)

(III) RAMIFICATIONS OF OBTAINING THESE PROMISES

1. Thanking God (2 Corinthians 1:3)

2. Developing a steadfast hope (2 Corinthians 1:7)

3. Deeper trust in God (2 Corinthians 1:10)

4. Greater confidence in God’s deliverance (2 Corinthians 1:10)

5. Our conduct in the world

a) In simplicity ( 2 Corinthians 1:12a )

b) In godly sincerity ( 2 Corinthians 1:12b )

c) Not with worldly wisdom ( 2 Corinthians 1:12c )

d) By the grace of God ( 2 Corinthians 1:12d )

6. Living by faith (2 Corinthians 1:24)
