DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY

Text: 1 Corinthians 15; Isaiah 25

(I) PROBLEM OF THE FEAR OF DEATH

1. It causes great sorrow (John 14:1-6; 1 Thessalonians 4:13)

2. It creates deep fear (Hebrews 2:14-15)

3. It allows Satan to put the fearful in bondage (Hebrews 2:14-15)

(II) PERSPECTIVE OF DEATH

1. A mystery resolved (1 Corinthians 15:51)

a) Once hidden

b) Now revealed

c) Death is merely “sleep”

2. The Dead in Christ (1 Corinthians 15:51-54)

a) Changed!

b) Dead will be raised incorruptible

c) Mortality will put on immortality

(III) PROPHECY OF VICTORY

1. God will swallow up death forever (Isaiah 25:8a)

2. God will wipe away tears (Isaiah 25:8b)

(IV) PROCLAMATION OF VICTORY

“O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory? 1 Corinthians 15:55

1. The sting of death is sin

2. But that sting of death has been removed by the Lord Jesus Christ

“For since by man came death even so in Christ all shall be made alive” 1 Corinthians 15:22

“Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 15:57

(V) PERSONAL FAITH IN CHRIST

1. Basic Faith

Needed to establish a relationship with the Lord Jesus

2. Deeper Faith

Needed to find victory over the fear of death
