SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MESSIANIC PSALMS

1. The writer of the Psalms

2. Inspired by God

a) God-breathed   (2 Timothy 3:16)
b) Inspired by the Holy Spirit   (2 Peter 1:20-21)

3. Sometimes the writer is a “Type” of Christ

a) Pre-figuring Christ the Lord
b) David was one such “Type”
i) In his role as Shepherd-King
ii) In his relationship with the LORD
iii) In His suffering as well

A REFERENCE TO A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

1. You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup   (Psalm 16:5)

2. I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel   (Psalm 16:7)

3. I have set the LORD always before me   (Psalm 16:8a)

4. Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved   (Psalm 16:8b )

5. Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices   (Psalm 16:9)

6. In Your presence is fullness of joy   (Psalm 16:11)

A REFERENCE TO SUFFERING AND DEATH

1. You will not leave my soul in Sheol   (Psalm 16:10a)

2. Nor will you allow Your holy one to see corruption   (Psalm 16:10b)
