BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE

(I) A THREEFOLD WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT FROM GOD

1. Be strong and of good courage (Joshua 1:6)

2. Only be strong and very courageous (Joshua 1:7)

3. Be strong and of good courage (Joshua 1:9)

(II) A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOMETHING OUTSTANDING IN LIFE

1. To lead people

a) Joshua to take over the reins of leadership from Moses

b) To lead Israel into the Promised Land

c) To cause them to inherit the land

2. To lead by walking in God’s ways

a) To observe the law of Moses ( Joshua 1:7b )

b) To be sure that there will be no turning to the right or left ( Joshua 1:7c )

c) To believe that success would come from walking in obedience ( Joshua 1:7d-8 )

d) To be committed to meditate on The Book of the Law ( Joshua 1:8 )

(III) A POWERFUL GUARANTEE GIVEN

1. The promise of God (Joshua 1:1-4)

a) Gift of the Promised Land ( Joshua 1:2-4 )

b) No enemy will prevail ( Joshua 1:5a )

2. The Presence of God (Joshua 1:5)

a) As I was with Moses, so I will be with you

b) I will not leave you

c) I will not forsake you

(IV) APPROPRIATE RESPONSE NEEDED

1. To believe what God has promised

2. To act on what God had promised

3. To find that strength and courage

4. To take up the challenge to live a life that is strong and courageous
