Text: Proverbs 12
9 March 2003

Dear Parents,

THE TWIN ESSENTIALS OF LIFE: WISDOM AND RIGHTEOUSNESS
The themes of “wisdom” and “righteousness” cover many aspects of life. The Book of Proverbs seems to suggest that a person must be both wise and righteous. If he is both wise and righteous, he has all that he needs to succeed in life. To this end, he collects proverbial sayings that support his basic thesis.

THOUGHTS ABOUT WISDOM

1. Knowledge and Wisdom

Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge,
But he who hates correction is stupid.

Proverbs 12:1

2. Commendation of a wise man

A man will be commended according to his wisdom,
But he who is of a perverse heart will be despised.

Proverbs 12:8

3. Heeding of good counsel

The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
But he who heeds counsel is wise.

Proverbs 12:15

4. Prudence

A prudent man conceals knowledge,
But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

Proverbs 12:23

RECALL EARLIER TEACHINGS ON THE THEME OF WISDOM
The theme of wisdom was very well developed in the first nine chapters of the Book of Proverbs. The earlier chapters should be reviewed again and again. New thoughts ought to be added to previous sayings concerning the theme of wisdom. Each new thought would do one or more of the following things. Five things may be highlighted:-

1. It acts to Remind us of the previous lessons.

2. It acts to Reinforce earlier lessons.

3. It Introduces new Dimensions.

4. It brings new Encouragement.

5. It develops Maturity.

Press on in cultivating wisdom in our children!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
