Text: Proverbs 14
24 August 2003

Dear Parents,

SPECIAL INSIGHTS OF LIFE
From time to time, special insights of life are given. This is something we need to expect to do in the work of parenting. We have an unusual comment in this text.

In a multitude of people is a king’s honour,
But in the lack of people is the downfall of a prince.

Proverbs 14:28

What does this mean? Let us ponder this little gem of wisdom.

1. A multitude of people vs. a lack of people

a) If a king enjoys a multitude of loyal subjects, then he is greatly blessed indeed. It is his honour.

b) If a prince (or a king) has very little support, that would prove his undoing.

2. Application in real life

a) The success of any business depends on the volume of good and loyal customers.

b) The success of any political party depends on the number of supporters they can find.

c) Success in almost any chosen area of work depends on the number of people who will rally round to support.

d) This includes Church work.

3. Teach children how to gain loyal and trusted friends!

Popularity does not happen overnight. Good and loyal friends must be won. The effort put in is worth it all.

ILLUSTRATION FROM THE SCRIPTURES
We have a very clear example of how David won the hearts of the whole nation, even when he was but a young man.

So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely…
And he was accepted in the sight of all the people…
And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the LORD
was with him…
But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out
and came in before them…

1 Samuel 18:5, 14, 16

Let us teach our children these deep and special insights of life.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
