Text: Proverbs 15
3 November 2003

Dear Parents,

GREAT LESSONS ABOUT THE LORD TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN
The Book of Proverbs though not written as a theological treatise, nevertheless includes many wonderful and soul-uplifting insights about the Lord. We would do well to teach our children some of the lessons found in Proverbs 15.

1. God watches over the Earth

This is a great theme to teach our children. Let us consider the following text.

The eyes of the LORD are in every place,
Keeping watch on the evil and the good.

Proverbs 15:3

Let us look at other texts in the Scriptures that teach this same glorious truth.

The LORD is in His holy temple,
The LORD’s throne is in heaven;
His eyes behold,
His eyelids test the sons of men.

Psalm 11:4

The LORD looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men.
From the place of His dwelling He looks
On all the inhabitants of the earth.

Psalm 33:13-14

2. Ramifications of this great truth

A number of ramifications must be considered as we ponder over this challenging text.

a) Great encouragement to the heart

How wonderful it is to know that God watches over the world. Sometimes, the world can be a pretty scary place! It is assuring to know that God is keeping watch on the evil and the good.

b) Great concern as to how we live before the Lord

If the Lord’s eyes are watching us, then we should watch even more carefully how we behave and order our lives. Knowledge of God watching us should steer us away from sin and challenge us to live well.

Let us reinforce this teaching in the hearts of our children, and they would have a wonderful principle in their lives that would give them great confidence!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
