Dear Parents,
INCULCATE A DEEP LOVE FOR KNOWLEDGE
Our children will spend the major portion of their life in going to school. If we include going to Nursery as part of their education experience, and going to Junior College as part of their basic education, we are talking about 15 years of going to school. By the time he graduates from Junior College, he would have spent 83.33% of his life garnering knowledge!
Few children really love knowledge. They like school because they have friends, sporting activities etc. Obtaining knowledge, passing exams etc are things to be tolerated rather than enjoyed! How may we inculcate a deeper love for knowledge in the hearts of our children?
The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,
But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.Proverbs 15:14
1. An understanding heart
The learning process is aided much when the individual has a heart that understands. Acquisition of facts is not the same as having a heart of understanding.
2. A heart that seeks knowledge
How important it is that children be taught how to love knowledge. They must also be given every encouragement to seek knowledge.
3. In direct contrast
A foolish person on the other hand would never feed on knowledge. He would feed on “foolishness”.
OUR RESPONSIBILITY
Take time to review the first nine chapters of the Book of Proverbs. The theme of seeking “wisdom” is heavily emphasized. The following truths must be emphasized:-
1. The onus for seeking knowledge lies on us.
2. Knowledge and wisdom are to be found everywhere.
3. There are rich blessings awaiting those who seek after godly knowledge and wisdom.
SPARE NO EFFORT
Let us let the Word of God speak to our hearts! The best teacher is the one who sets a good example. Let us desire to grow in knowledge and wisdom. May we all deepen our knowledge and understanding of the Lord and His Word.
