Text: Proverbs 15
7 March 2004

Dear Parents,

THE PLANS WE MAKE FOR OUR CHILDREN
As parents, we naturally make plans for our children’s well-being. Consciously, many good parents make plans for their children’s future. What are some of the plans we have made for our children?

1. Plans for a healthy life

2. Plans for a good education

3. Plans for a Christian upbringing

4. Plans for the development of strong family bonds

These are probably some of the major plans that we have considered. These are good plans to make.

TEACHING CHILDREN HOW TO MAKE PLANS
Let us not assume that our children know how to make plans “naturally”. The making of plans is a skill that must be learned. We must endeavour to teach our children how to plan things. If children learn how to plan well, this skill would stand them in good stead for life!

Don’t leave all the planning to the maids! If children think that all they need is to ask the maid, they would be deprived of learning good and important lessons of life!

WHERE DO WE BEGIN TEACHING CHILDREN HOW TO MAKE PLANS?
Let’s take time to consider the following text carefully.

Without counsel, plans go awry,
But in the multitude of counselors
they are established.

Proverbs 15:22

1. Plans can go awry

Teach children that planning is important. Even with planning, things can go awry, how much worse when things are unplanned!

2. The place of good counsel

Children can learn to make plans with parents offering good counsel. They would then learn an important Biblical principle. Plans and good counsel go together. When things are well planned, they become well-established too! Teach children how to plan!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
