Text: Proverbs 18
30 January 2005

Dear Parents,

TALK TO CHILDREN ABOUT TYPES OF PEOPLE IN THE WORLD
It is always good and healthy to talk to our children about different things. These talks can be such a source of blessing to the children.

1. Building up family spirit

That’s one definite blessing that will come about. Let us never take for granted the family God has given us. We need to do our part to build up the family spirit.

2. Widening the horizon

The horizon of our children can increase and widen significantly when we talk to them meaningfully.

THREE DANGERS TO AVOID
Children know that there are dangers that must be avoided. Construction sites have signs posted clearly to warn people of danger. Signs on the road alert motorists of danger.

There are three dangers that we need to warn our children of. The following text says it effectively.

A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;
He rages against all wise judgment.
A fool has no delight in understanding,
But in expressing his own heart.
When the wicked comes, contempt comes also;
And with dishonour comes reproach.

Proverbs 18:1-3

1. The person who rages

2. The person who delights only in hearing himself speak

3. The person who is contemptuous of others

These people are called “fools” and “wicked people” in the Book of Proverbs. In this text, we catch glimpses of some of their characteristic behavior.

TEACH CHILDREN TO BE DISCERNING
One of the things we must do is to help our children to become more discerning. They can discern the characteristics mentioned above! Teach them how to avoid ending up with the same characteristics. The effort put in to bring up our children with discernment will pay huge dividends in the long run.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
