Text: Proverbs 20
19 February 2006

Dear Parents,

MONEY MATTERS
It is a common desire to earn enough in one’s lifetime so that the nest-egg may be called “an inheritance”. However, this desire can also turn awry if one is not careful. Let us take time to ponder the following text.

An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning
will not be blessed at the end.

Proverbs 20:21

THE CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF JACOB (Genesis 27)
The Scriptures record a classic example of a man called Jacob. He fits the text above (in his younger days).

1. Jacob’s desire of his inheritance

a) This became an overwhelming desire in his heart.

b) He was prepared to do anything to obtain his inheritance.

2. “Gained hastily”

a) Jacob did not think about his brother.

b) He did not consider how his actions could sour up his relationship with his twin.

3. “Will not be blessed at the end”

a) Jacob had to flee from his brother.

b) He lived in exile for more than 20 years.

c) He never saw his beloved mother ever again.

d) He suffered terribly in a foreign country.

WISE TO BRING ALL MONETARY MATTERS TO GOD IN PRAYER
It is not wrong to be concerned about money matters. However, lest the mind become filled with all kinds of wrong thoughts, it is wise to bring all monetary matters to the Lord and His word.

Let one’s “inheritance” be built up over a space of time. Never let “haste” be given full reign or it can create havoc.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
