Dear Parents,
INTRODUCTION TO THE NEXT SECTION OF PROVERBS
We have an interesting introduction to the next section of the Book of Proverbs.
These also are the proverbs of Solomon
which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied.Proverbs 25:1
1. A glimpse of some of the areas of work of King Hezekiah
We have an interesting glimpse of what Hezekiah did when he reigned over Judah:-
a) Setting up a team of scholars to do research work
b) Area of focus: The proverbial sayings of Solomon
c) Preservation of the Proverbs of Solomon
2. Concern of King Hezekiah
Three reasons may be suggested as to why he sponsored a team of scholars to do this work.
a) Personal interest in history of Judah
b) Personal interest in learning
b) Posterity would benefit
GUIDED BY AN IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE
One of the guiding principles in Hezekiah’s attempt to collect and study Solomon’s proverbial saying may well be found in the following text.
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,
But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.Proverbs 25:2
1. Concealing of a matter
In God’s wisdom, He “conceals a matter”. The tacit challenge to man is to discover what He has not obviously revealed.
2. Challenge to search for answers
It is man’s glory and wisdom to discover what God has hidden. He will ultimately reveal wisdom to the person who diligently seeks it.
Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
