Text: Proverbs 25
17 December 2006

Dear Parents,

BOASTFULNESS
One of the peculiar problems children have is their tendency to “boast”.

1. They will boast about their parents.

2. They will boast about what they can do.

3. They will boast about doing impossible things.

IMAGINATION
Why do children speak the way they do? Several reasons may be offered:-

1. They are immature.

2. They do not really comprehend what they say.

3. It is all a part of their growing up.

WHEN CHILDREN DO NOT GROW OUT OF THEIR BOASTING PROBLEM
The difficulty comes when children do not grow out of their problem of boasting. The following text hints at this problem.

Whoever falsely boasts of giving
Is like clouds and wind without rain.

Proverbs 25:14

1. “Clouds and wind”

Dark clouds and wind are in mind here. When these are present, there is every hope that good rain would come.

2. “Without rain”

It is possible to have dark clouds and good wind, and rain still does not come. That would be such a source of disappointment to all, especially those who need the rain.

3. Never be full of empty promises

Let us teach children not to boast about things they cannot or will not keep!

a) Wise to teach children to keep promises.

b) Good to help children never make promises they cannot keep.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
