Text: Proverbs 25
18 March 2007

Dear Parents,

THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Some of our children know the song “The Fruit of the Spirit”. In this song, the fruit of the Spirit is listed. Let us take time to look at this portion of Scripture.

But the fruit of Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control…

Galatians 5:22-23

There would be no fruit, if there isn’t the faithful sowing of good seeds. Let us be challenged to keep sowing good seeds in the hearts of our children.

THE CHALENGE TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN “SELF-CONTROL”
The following is a text that teaches us about the importance of self-control.

Whoever has no rule over his own spirit
Is like a city broken down, without walls.

Proverbs 25:28

1. Rule over one’s spirit is self-control

Many efforts are made to practise self-control. The following forms are well-known:-

a) Diet control

b) Spending control

c) How about “self-control”?

2. If there is no control of one’s spirit

a) A person who has no self-control is compared to a city that has broken down.

b) Or he may be compared to a city without walls.

i) He has little protection.

ii) He will always be in danger of being overrun by enemies.

3. Commitment to guide our children

Let us renew our commitment to guide our children effectively.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
