Text: Proverbs 26
25 March 2007

Dear Parents,

HONOUR
What a good thing it is to have honour. The book of Proverbs has much to say on this subject. Let us take a look at some of the earlier texts studied:-

1. Wisdom and honour

Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom,
And in all your getting, get understanding.
Exalt her, and she will promote you;
She will bring you honour, when you embrace her.

Proverbs 4:7-8

2. Humility and honour

The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom,
And before honour is humility.

Proverbs 15:33

Honour is a special blessing that God gives to those who seek after wisdom and who are given to humility.

WHERE HONOUR GIVEN WILL BE WASTED

God wants to give honour to His children. But if they do not seek after wisdom and do not walk in paths of humility, then even if honour is given, it would be wasted. Let us ponder this proverb prayerfully.

As snow in summer and rain in harvest,
So honour is not fitting for a fool.

Proverbs 26:1

1. Learning from observations about the seasons:-

a) Snow in summer time

There should be no snow during summer time. It is all wrong to have snow in summer.

b) Rain at harvest time

There should be no rain at harvest time. If there is rain at harvest time, it would likely destroy the crops!

2. Honour is not fitting for fools

In the same way, honour and fools do not go together. Honour does not adorn with beauty the person who is a morally nothing more than a fool.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
