Text: Proverbs 27
2 September 2007

Dear Parents,

ESSENCE OF PRUDENCE
Prudence is a fruit of wisdom. The following texts help us to appreciate the significance of this word.

To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion.

Proverbs 1:4

Two words are directly related to “prudence”. They are “knowledge” and “discretion”.

PRUDENCE IN LIFE
How does “prudence” work itself out in real life? The following text gives us a glimpse.

A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself;
The simple pass on and are punished.

Proverbs 27:12

1. The prudent foresees evil

a) This is not a description of the gift of prophecy.

b) It simply describes the discernment of the prudent.

i) He is able to recognize evil when he comes across it.

ii) He knows how to read the strength of evil forces.

iii) Prudence teaches him to avoid evil; he hides himself.

2. The simple cannot foresee evil

a) He does not have sufficient in-depth knowledge.

b) He does not know how to detect what is evil.

c) He enters into the presence of evil.

d) He is harmed (punished) by evil.

PRUDENCE CAN BE OBTAINED
Let us persevere in our commitment to teach our children well! Teach prudence!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
