Text: Proverbs 28
3 February 2008

Dear Parents,

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED
There is an obvious difference between the righteous and the wicked. They are essentially diametrically opposite! The difference becomes even starker in the political arena (This was so true in the monarchical system in ancient Israel).

When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory;
But when the wicked arise, men hide themselves.

Proverbs 28:12

1. When righteous people come into power

a) There is great rejoicing.

b) There is also great glory.

c) The righteous will pursue that which is good and beneficial for the country.

i) The righteous will seek to establish justice.

ii) They will seek to make the country strong.

iii) They will not seek their own personal interest.

2. When the wicked come into power

a) Men hide themselves.

b) There is fear instead of joy.

c) There is grave and valid concern as to what they will do when they are in power.

i) There is danger of abuse of power.

ii) There is the danger of corruption.

iii) There is the danger of oppression of the poor.

PRAYING FOR THE LEADERS OF OUR COUNTRY
What the apostle Paul enjoined must be remembered and practised.

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made
for all men, for kings and all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all
godliness and reverence.

1 Timothy 2:1-2

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
