Text: Proverbs 28
30 March 2008

Dear Parents,

SPECIAL PROBLEMS
Life is often very complex. There are situations (in some countries) where the straightforward and honest approach may not prove to be easy at all. What should we do then? It is good to teach our children how to choose wisely and well at all times.

To show partiality is not good,
Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress.

Proverbs 28:21

1. A general euphemistic word

a) The word “partiality” has a variety of meaning.

i) It includes the idea of “bribing”.

ii) It includes the idea of “gratuity” (in any form).

iii) It may also include nepotism.

iv) Or favouritism of any kind.

b) Partiality is not considered good practice!

2. The reasons for not practicing “partiality”

a) People are easily corrupted.

b) They soon look beyond what they can obtain from honest labour.

c) They look out for the extra handouts that they have grown used to having.

d) They become dishonest before too long.

e) They favour those who can show partiality towards them.

f) They will even consider “transgression” – all for a piece of bread.

g) The phrase “for a piece of bread”

It may be a huge amount of money… but it is dismissed as insignificant.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
