Text: Proverbs 28
27 April 2008

Dear Parents,

TEACHING OUR CHILDREN TO TRUST IN THE LORD
It is never easy to trust! And it would appear that children who are brought up in a Christian family environment, will not find it easy to teach trust in the Lord. But teach we must!

He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife,
But he who trusts in the LORD will be prospered.
He who trusts in his own heart is a fool,
But whoever walks wisely will be delivered.

Proverbs 28:25-26

1. That which will work contrary to trust in the Lord

a) A proud heart

b) A heart that trusts in self

c) Ultimately – “he who trusts in his own heart is a fool”.

These are common problems that we face all the time! We have to constantly warn our children of the danger of pride and self-trust!

2. That which will promote trust in the Lord

a) True wisdom leads a person to trust God rather than self.

b) The practice of wisdom (“walks wisely”) will promote trust in God.

c) God’s blessings (“prosperity”) will also strengthen trust in the Lord.

THE PRACTICE OF TRUST IN GOD
Trust may indeed be called “a practice”. Three things are suggested to encourage the practice of trust in the Lord.

1. There must be conscious application of faith.

2. Trust is cultivated as a way of life.

3. There is a consistent rejection of prideful self-trust.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
