Text: Proverbs 29
8 June 2008

Dear Parents,

THE POOR AND THE RICH
There will always be those who become rich. There will also always be some who will be poor! The world is sometimes described as comprising the haves and the have-nots!

THE CAUSE OF THE POOR
Many of us (in Singapore) must consider ourselves greatly blessed. This present generation has never suffered deep poverty. How should we regard the poor? The following text has an interesting insight to teach us.

The righteous considers the cause of the poor,
But the wicked does not understand such knowledge.

Proverbs 29:7

1. “The cause of the poor”

Why are some people poor? They certainly did not plan to be poor. Their poverty ought to be understood! They have “a cause” that is often ignored.

2. “The righteous”

The truly righteous distinguishes himself well when he considers the cause of the poor.

a) He is sympathetic towards the poor.

b) He listens to the cries of the poor.

c) He seeks to help the poor in every way possible.

d) If there is a just cause, the righteous will help the poor obtain vindication.

3. “The wicked”

The wicked also sets himself apart (from the righteous).

a) Sadly he does not understand the cause of the poor.

b) He has little or no sympathy for the poor.

c) He does not pretend that he understands such knowledge.

Let us ever seek to guide the feet of our children to kindly regard the poor.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
