Text: Proverbs 29
7 September 2008

Dear Parents,

ANGER AND PRIDE
These are closely related. The following proverb highlights this problem.

An angry man stirs up strife,
And a furious man abounds in transgressions.
A man’s pride will bring him low,
But the humble in spirit will retain honor.

Proverbs 29:22-23

1. Unbridled anger

A person with this problem will create strife!

2. “A furious man”

He will abound in transgression!

3. One underlying factor

a) Pride is certainly one of the factors that causes a person to express himself in anger.

b) Pride blinds the angry man from seeing the damage he can cause to others!

4. The consequences of pride

a) Pride will lead to anger.

b) Anger will lead to disastrous consequences.

c) Ultimately the proud will bring about his own downfall.

THE CONTRAST: HUMILITY OF SPIRIT
Mercifully, there is a good and viable alternative. Let us guide our children to choose this option.

1. Choosing to be humble in spirit

This is the opposite of one who is filled with anger and fury!

2. The blessing of honour

The person who chooses to be humble in spirit will find that he will always be able to retain his honour!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
