Text: Proverbs 3:13-26
5 May 2002

Dear Parents,

CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR OUR CHILDREN TO FIND WISDOM
What should we pray for constantly as we bring our children to the Lord each day? Of course, if they are ill, we must pray for the Lord’s grace and mercy to be given to them. But if there is ever one thing that we must constantly pray for, surely that thing must be that our children be given grace to find wisdom.

Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding.

Proverbs 3:13

Let us never lose sight of the greater picture. Let’s pray for wisdom to be granted, rather than physical health, good grades in school, or wealth.

THE MANY BLESSINGS THAT ATTEND THE BLESSING OF WISDOM
Wisdom is not a blessing to be taken for granted or despised. There are many blessings attached to it. Let us look at the list of things that go with wisdom.

1. “Length of days” (Proverbs 3:16)

2. “Riches and honour” (Proverbs 3:16)

3. “Pleasantness” (Proverbs 3:17)

4. “Peace” (Proverbs 3:17)

5. “A tree of life” (Proverbs 3:18)

6. “Happiness” (Proverbs 3:18)

This list of blessings is not exhaustive by any means. This brief collection of blessings is to remind us that the search for wisdom is worth every effort put in. Let us not cease to pray for wisdom for our children. Let us do everything within our power to help our children obtain wisdom.

ENCOURAGEMENT TO PURSUE WISDOM
The writer of Proverbs probably knew that many get discouraged in their pursuit of wisdom. Thus he wrote a passage that spoke of how the Lord Himself employed wisdom in all He did.

The LORD by wisdom founded the earth;
By understanding He established the heavens;
By His knowledge the depths were broken up.
And clouds drop down the dew.

Proverbs 3:19-20

The point that the writer sought to establish is clear. If God employed wisdom, knowledge and understanding, we should be encouraged to seek wisdom earnestly.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
