Text: Proverbs 30
4 January 2009

Dear Parents,

SMALL BUT WISE
The following observations are truly challenging. The essence is to be found in the following text.

There are four things which are little on the earth,
But they are exceedingly wise.

Proverbs 30:24

1. “Little on the earth”

The word “little” is used in the relative sense. There are huge creatures and there are also little ones! All too often attention and regard are given to the larger creatures and the smaller ones are despised and set aside.

2. “They are exceedingly wise”

The writer seeks to highlight one aspect – wisdom! The size of a creature is not as important as its “wisdom”.

FOUR THINGS LISTED
The writer chose four small creatures to illustrate his argument!

The ants are a people not strong,
Yet they prepare their food in the summer;
The rock badgers are a feeble folk,
Yet they make their homes in the crags;
The locusts have no king,
Yet they all advance in ranks;
The spider skillfully grasps with its hands,
And it is in kings’ palaces.

Proverbs 30:25-28

1. The ants

They are to be regarded for the fact that they are wise enough to “prepare their food in the summer”.

a) Ants are known for their diligence.

b) They know how to stock up for the winter!

2. The rock badgers

a) They may be feeble.

b) Yet they are able to make for themselves homes in the craggy rocks.

3. The locusts

They are famed for being able to keep to their ranks.

4. The spiders

They make their homes in the palaces of kings!

Lessons may be learned from the humblest of God’s creation!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
