Text: Proverbs 31
8 February 2009

Dear Parents,

A MOTHER’S SYLLABUS
We may be sure that the mother of King Lemuel taught many important lessons of faith and life to her son! It would be of great interest to discover all that she had taught her son! Unfortunately we are not able to obtain the syllabus with which she taught her son, King Lemuel.

TWO SUBJECTS HIGHLIGHTED
King Lemuel however highlighted two lessons that stood out in his mind. He wrote,

Do not give your strength to women,
Nor your ways to that which destroys kings.

Proverbs 31:3

1. The two subjects that remained in the heart and mind of King Lemuel

a) Women (Proverbs 31:3)

b) Wine (Proverbs 31:4-7)

2. “Do not give your strength to women”

a) Temptations in the royal court

i) Women would be easily available to the men (royal family).

ii) The danger of being caught up with women was obvious.

iii) There would be the loss of focus in ruling the country.

iv) There would be the problem of excess.

v) Ultimately there would be dissipation of strength.

vi) The kingdom can be ruined… if the king dissipated his strength on women.

b) Ways that destroys kings

i) There are many things that could destroy kings (and not just warfare).

ii) The ways of women can end up seeing kings destroyed!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
