Text: Proverbs 31
26 April 2009
Dear Parents,
LEARNING NEW SKILLS
It is always wonderful to learn new skills. An industrious person is one who is constantly and eagerly learning new skills. We have a good example of one who learns new skills in the following text.
She considers a field and buys it;
From her profits she plants a vineyard.Proverbs 31:16
1. Real estate
a) She learns the skill of purchasing land (“field”).
b) Obviously this was an investment.
c) She sells it for a good profit.
d) Entering into this business of buying and selling land was not a skill that was easily learned.
i) There were no business schools then.
ii) She would have to learn the hard way… from experience.
iii) She is an astute learner and succeeds in all she does.
2. Vineyard owner
The money earned was not hoarded. Neither was it spent foolishly.
a) A further investment was made.
b) Establishing of a vineyard was no easy task.
c) It would require extensive knowledge to make this business proposition work.
A REMINDER OF HER VIRTUES
She is committed to her family (Proverbs 31:12). She continues to “work willingly with her hands” (Proverbs 31:13). We need to add that she has a good mind that desires to learn business skills that would help her improve her lot (and that of her family) in life. She is successful because of her many virtues (Proverbs 31:10).
Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
