Text: Proverbs 31
17 May 2009

Dear Parents,

DEEP SENSE OF COMMITMENT
A sense of commitment is important to cultivate. But we must help our children to go beyond a general sense of commitment to a deep one. Let us ponder the following text and see how this remarkable lady displayed such deep commitment.

She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle.

Proverbs 31:19

1. Wool and Flax (Proverbs 31:13)

a) This was only the beginning.

b) Gathering wool and flax expressed commitment of the lady to her husband and family.

2. Distaff and Spindle (Proverbs 3:19)

a) This was another big step forward.

b) A new set of skills must be learned.

c) The lady shows deep commitment here.

i) She could have told herself she has done enough already.

ii) She was after all contributing to the family income by gathering wool and flax.

iii) She did not stay in her comfort zone but chose to extend herself.

FEATURES OF DEEP COMMITMENT
What are some features of deep commitment? Let us consider the following three thoughts:- (Let us help our children develop these virtues)!

1. To go the second mile

2. To take the initiative to do more than is expected

3. To devote long hours to achieving success

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
