Text: Proverbs 31
24 May 2009

Dear Parents,

A COMPASSIONATE HEART
Skills, strength, commitment- these are wonderful things to posses! But there is always room for one more virtue. This one is surely the icing on the cake!

She extends her hand to the poor,
Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.

Proverbs 31:20

1. “She extends her hand to the poor”

a) She knows what it means to be poor.

b) Though she has become wealthy now she continues to feel compassion for the poor.

c) Compassion is best expressed in action and not just feelings.

d) She would not withdraw her hand.

e) Instead she extends her hand to the poor!

i) She physically cares for the poor.

ii) She literally involves herself with the plight of the poor.

2. “Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy”

a) The word “Yes” expresses delight and approval.

b) The words “hand” and “hands” emphasize the fact that she is one who deeply cares.

c) The poor are also needy.

i) Perhaps basic needs are not met.

ii) Perhaps greater needs are there… tragedy… death.

iii) These needs may be many.

LET US TEACH OUR CHILDREN TO HAVE COMPASSIONATE HEARTS
This is one virtue that would make our children stand out!

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
