STUDY 61
Text: Proverbs 8:1-15
25 August 2002
Dear Parents,
THE GLORY OF WISDOM
Proverbs 8 is virtually dedicated to extolling the virtues and glory of wisdom. Let us consider some of the things written about wisdom.
1. The availability of wisdom
Many imagine that wisdom is hard to find. The writer disagrees. He argues that wisdom is far more available than most realise.
Does not wisdom cry out,
And understanding lift up her voice?
She takes her stand on the top of the high hill,
Beside the way, where the paths meet.
She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city,
At the entrance of doors.Proverbs 8:1-3
The writer is suggesting that you can’t miss seeing wisdom. She is as obvious as a city on a high hill. She is found everywhere!
2. The virtues of wisdom
Only the “simple ones” and the “fools” will not be able to appreciate the virtues of wisdom (Proverbs 8:5).
What are some of the virtues highlighted? To what may wisdom be compared? Let us encourage our children to pursue wisdom. Consider the following text.
For wisdom is better than rubies,
And all the things one may desire
Cannot be compared to her.
I , wisdom, dwell with prudence,
And find out knowledge and discretion.
Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom.
I am understanding. I have strength.
By me kings reign,
And rulers decree justice.Proverbs 8:11-12, 14-15
Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
