1. God had promised many good things to Israel

2. All that God had promised He had fulfilled

IMPORTANT WORD OF WARNING Joshua 23:15-16

1. Danger of “harmful things”

2. Danger of “destruction”

BASIS OF THIS WORD OF WARNING Joshua 23:16

1. Transgression of the covenant of the Lord

a) Rebellion

b) Rejection

2. Turning to worship other gods

a) Turning away from the God who has done so much for them

b) Turning to idols that can do absolutely nothing for them

STANDING IN AWE OF THE POWER OF THE LORD’S WORD

1. On the one hand the promise of great blessings

a) Conquest of mighty enemies

b) Inheritance of the land

2. On the other hand the warning of destruction

a) Destruction forewarned

b) This word would be as certainly fulfilled as the word of promise
