Encouragement to Trust in God

Text: Psalm 34:8-14

ENCOURAGEMENT TO TRUST IN GOD

1. Taste and see   (Psalm 34:8)

a) To be experienced
b) Confidence of faith in the LORD

2. Things that would be found

a) That the LORD is good   (Psalm 34:8a)
b) Blessed is the person who trusts in Him   (Psalm 34:8b)

EXHORTATION TO PRACTISE THE FEAR THE LORD

1. Faith in the Lord must be evidenced in exercising “trust” in Him

2. It is to be further practised through fearing the LORD   (Deuteronomy 10:12)

3. All who are indeed “saints” will practise this fear of the LORD   (Psalm 34:9)

4. Observations:

a) There is no want for all who fear the LORD   (Psalm 23:1)
b) Young lions   (Psalm 34:10a)
i) They may lack and suffer hunger
ii) Though the lion is regarded as the king of the beasts
c) Those who seek the LORD   (Psalm 34:10)
i) Their faith would not be in vain
ii) They would lack no good thing

LEARNING HOW TO PRACTISE THE FEAR OF THE LORD

1. It can and must be learned

a) Listen to me   (Psalm 34:11a)
b) I will teach you   (Psalm 34:11b)

2. Things that must be practised

a) The tongue must be kept from evil   (Psalm 34:13a)
b) The lips must be kept from speaking deceit   (Psalm 34:13b)
c) There must be a departure from evil   (Psalm 34:14a)
d) Peace must be pursued   (Psalm 34:14b)

3. Blessings from the LORD

a) He will grant life   (Psalm 34:12a)
b) Many good days will be given   (Psalm 34:12b)
