A TESTAMENT (Hebrews 9:16)
Another word for “covenant”

2. A necessity

a) Like a will
b) The person who made the will must die before it can be effective
c) It has no power as long as the testator lives (Hebrews 9:17)

THE FIRST COVENANT (Hebrews 9:17)

1. It was dedicated with blood (Hebrews 9:18)

2. After having taught/ explained
The precepts (Hebrews 9:19)

3. He took the blood of calves/ goats (Hebrews 9:19-20, Exodus 24)

4. Likewise, the tabernacle (Hebrews 9:21,Exodus 29)

ACCORDING TO THE LAW

1. Almost all things are purified with blood (Hebrews 9:22a)

2. Without shedding of blood there is no remission (Hebrews 9:22b)

SIGNIFICANCE

1. Blood
It represents life

2. Shedding of blood
Giving of one’s life
Sacrifice of one’s life for the sake of another
