GOD’S PRAISE OF JOB  
Job 1:1,8; 2:3

1. Blameless

2. Upright

3. Feared God

4. Shunned evil

 

THE NATURE OF SATAN

1. His disdain of Job (man)

a) He fears God only because he has been so greatly blessed

b) He worships God because he has been wonderfully hedged in (protection)

2. His defiance of God’s word of commendation

a) If God were to remove his protection Job would fall

b) If Job were to suffer he would give up his faith

3. His cruelty

a) This is clearly evidenced in past attacks

b) Adam and Eve

c) King David

4. Cruel Deeds

a) Caused the loss of wealth           Job 1:13-17

i) Attack of the Sabeans resulting in the loss of servants, oxen and donkeys

ii) Fire resulting in the loss of lives of more servants and sheep

iii) Attack of the Chaldeans with the loss of lives of more servants and camels

b) Caused the loss of the lives of Job’s children

i) 7 sons and 3 daughters               Job 1:2

ii) All perished when a house collapsed on them    Job 1:18-19

c) Caused personal physical suffering

i) Painful boils

ii) From head to toe           Job 2:7-8

 

A MESSENGER FROM SATAN
2 Corinthians 12:7

1. Paul’s affliction (unknown)

2. He recognized it as from Satan

 

WHAT IT TAKES TO DEFEAT SATAN

1. Character                 Job 1:1,8; 2:3

2. Communion with God in prayer       2 Corinthians 12:7-10

3. Courage to bear suffering

4. Concentrating on drawing strength from the grace of God
