2. Extolling the virtue of Perseverance
a) Recognition of the role of Perseverance by the apostle Peter
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, To virtue knowledge; To knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance (“hupomone”), to perseverance (“hupomone”) godliness, To godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ
2 Peter 1:5-8
b) Recognition of the role of Perseverance by the apostle Paul
Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labour of love and patience (“hupomone”) of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father

Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience (“hupomone”)
James 1:3
d) Recognition of the role of perseverance by the author of Hebrews
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance (perseverance – “hupomone”) the race that is set before us.
Hebrews 12:1
3. Perseverance and Fruit-bearing (Hebrews 12:1-15)
a) Christ as the Supreme Example of One who Persevered/Endured
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured (“hupomone”) the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God
Hebrews 12:2
b) Enduring hostility
For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls
Hebrews 12:3
c) Enduring the Chastening of the Lord
If you endure chastening, God deals with you as sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?
