Text: 2 Corinthians 4:14-18, 5:1-8

YOUTH CONFERENCE 2017 3-7 December Theme: “The Same Spirit of Faith”                                                                                                                               

THE SPIRIT OF FAITH IN THE APOSTLE PAUL 

  1. No fear of death because of faith in God
    1. Faith to believe that God raised up the Lord Jesus Christ
      “Knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus”        2 Corinthians 4:14a 
    2. Faith to believe that God will also raise up all believers in Christ
      “Will also raise us up with Jesus”                                           2 Corinthians 4:14b
  1. No losing of heart
    1. Not even when the outward man is perishing
      “Therefore we do not lose heart.
      Even though our outward man is perishing”                                    2 Corinthians 4:16a 
    2. Because the inward man (the spirit)
      “Yet the inward man is being renewed day by day”   2 Corinthians 4:16b
  1. A courageous outlook of life and its difficulties
    1. Affliction
      “Our light affliction, which is but for a moment”        2 Corinthians 4:17a 
    2. A higher plan of God at work
      “Is working for us a far more
      Exceeding and eternal weight of glory”                             2 Corinthians 4:17b
  1. Looking at things with spiritual eyes
    1. The physical things of life
      “While we do not look at the things which are seen,
      But at the things which are not seen”                                 2 Corinthians 4:18a 
    2. The eternal things
      “For the things which are seen are temporary,
      But the things which are not seen are eternal”             2 Corinthians 4:18b
  1. A clear knowledge and strong faith
    1. This mortal life
      1. Our earthly house 2 Corinthians 5:1a
      2. This tent 2 Corinthians 5:1b
    2. Destroyed                   2 Corinthians 5:1c
  1. Our hope in the eternal
    1. We have a building from God 2 Corinthians 5:1d
    2. A house not made with hands 2 Corinthians 5:1e
    3. Eternal in the heavens 2 Corinthians 5:1f
  1. Longing for heaven
    1. Deep longing for heaven
      “For in this we groan, earnestly desiring
      To be clothed with our habitation
      Which is from heaven”                                                                  2 Corinthians 5:2 
    2. To be fully and wonderfully clothed
      “But further clothed,
      That mortality may be swallowed up by life”                                   2 Corinthians 5:4
  1. The gift of the Holy Spirit
    1. A special gift from God
    2. A Divine guarantee
      “Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God,
      Who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.”                        2 Corinthians 5:5
  1. Confidence
    1. Always confident
      “So we are always confident”                                                                              2 Corinthians 5:6
      (Confidence- “courage, boldness”)
    2. Confident and well-pleased
      “We are confident, yes, well-pleased
      Rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”          2 Corinthians 5:8
      (Confidence- “courage, boldness”) 

      (NB. The word translated “confidence” here is different from the word usedIn 1 Corinthians 1:9 “trust”
      In 1 Corinthians 1:15- “confidence”
      In 1 Corinthians 2:3- “confidence”           -Greek peitho
      The word used here speaks of “courage”              -Greek tharreo)

  1. Faith
    For we walk by faith, not by sight                                                                                       2 Corinthians 5:7

 THE SAME SPIRIT OF FAITH IN US                 

  1. We can have the same spirit of faith
  2. It is up to us to respond to what we have learned
  3. Do we desire to have this same spirit of faith?
