Text : Leviticus 26:1-13
Introduction
1. The LORD made a covenant with Israel Exodus 19, 20
2. Part of the covenant was that God would bless Israel
3. But will God always bless Israel no matter the circumstance?
4. The answer is “No!”
5. Israel’s mistake was to think that God would always bless them
The concept of a covenant
46 These are the statutes and judgments and laws which the LORD made between Himself and the children of Israel on Mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
Leviticus 26:46
1. A covenant is between two parties
a) God
b) Israel
2. Purpose of this covenant
a) The covenant teaches how Israel was to relate to God
b) The covenant teaches how Israel was to relate to each other
3. Some important details of the covenant
a) Statutes
b) Judgments
c) Laws
4. Major concern of the LORD
1 You shall not make idols for yourselves;
neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it;
for I am the LORD your God.
2 You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary:
I am the LORD.Leviticus 26:1-2
a) Idolatry was a major danger for Israel
b) This was a forewarning of the dangers that they would face
c) The greatest danger is idolatry
d) Moses knew that they would need things to remind them again and again
The conditions of the covenant
3 ‘If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them,
Leviticus 26:3
1. If …
a) The LORD used conditional sentences in the covenant… “If” …”Then”
b) All blessings of God are conditional
c) Similar to Exodus 19:5
Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
Exodus 19:5
d) The conditions
i) Walk in the LORD’s statutes
ii) Keep His commandments
iii) Perform His word
e) The “If” part… these conditions have to be met first before God would give
His blessings
2. Then… the LORD will bless
a) Rain in its season
then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
Leviticus 26:4
b) Provision of food
Your threshing shall last till the time of vintage, and the vintage shall last till the time of sowing;
you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.Leviticus 26:5
c) Peace in the land
I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid;
Leviticus 26:6a
d) No danger of evil beasts
I will rid the land of evil beasts,
Leviticus 26:6b
e) No sword will conquer the land
And the sword will not go through your land.
Leviticus 26:6c
f) Victory over enemies despite overwhelming odds
7 You will chase your enemies, and they shall fall by the sword before you.
8 Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight;
your enemies shall fall by the sword before you.Leviticus 26:7-8
The confirmation of the covenant
‘For I will look on you favourably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you.

1. The blessings given would bring about the confirmation of the covenant
2. Further blessings as confirmation
a) His favour
‘For I will look on you favourably and make you fruitful, multiply you and confirm My covenant with you.

b) His presence
11 I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you.
12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.Leviticus 26:11-12
