Description of the Word of God
A key part of our faith and walk with the Lord is with reference to His Word. It is through hearing the Word of God that we are able to develop our faith. (Rom 10:17) We are indeed privileged that God speaks to us through His Word and that we can grow our faith as we apply it into our lives.
I like the way in which God described His Word. He said, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.” (Isa 55:8) He described His words as “His thoughts.” It is through these prophecies that God has sought to reveal to man His thoughts.
Another description of His Word is His ways. They are revealed by His Word. All the ways of God are seen in His Word.
If we are seeking to know the thoughts and the ways of God, let us look to His Word.
Appreciating the profundity of the Lord’s Word
In describing His Word, the Lord is also helping us to appreciate how profound His Word is.
1. The loftiness of God’s Word
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isa 55:8,9)
The thoughts and the ways of God are found in the Word of God. They are truly deep and profound. They are nothing like the thoughts and the ways of man…which are so much more inferior. The thoughts of God are so much higher than the thoughts of man. They are as high as the heavens are from the earth. No man can develop such thoughts and ways as the Lord did. Let us appreciate the loftiness of God’s Word.
2. The power of God’s Word
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,” (Isa 55:10)
The great power of the Lord’s Word is seen as the rain and snow. They come down and do not return. They water the earth. They make the earth bring forth its bud. They give seed to the sower to sow and to make bread for others to eat. In the same way, there is great power in the word. It will produce fruit and not be deterred in any way. It will go forth with great power and fulfill what it set out to do. Let us appreciate how profoundly powerful the Word of God is.
3. The purpose of God’s Word
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isa 55:11)
There is also great purpose in the Word of God. God has a purpose for each word that is found in the Scriptures. It will go forth and accomplish what the Lord had determined, according to His pleasing. In whatever the Word had been sent to do, it will be fulfilled and it will prosper. It will not return to the Lord void. This is indeed truly profound. Let us be challenged to truly appreciate deeply the profundity of the Word of God.
