Sing to the Lord a new song
A Blessed and Happy New Year to all! As we begin this new year, let us do so with a new song in our hearts. The prophet Isaiah challenged, “Sing to the Lord a new song, and His praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you coastlands and you inhabitants of them!” (Isaiah 42:10)
We may not know what 2025 will hold for us. There may be fears concerning our jobs as uncertainty grows. Family difficulties may prove to be distressing. Health can be an issue, too. The challenge is to sing a new song no matter the circumstances. Let us be encouraged to focus on the Lord and give Him glory.
Focusing on the glory of the Lord
“I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to carved images.” (Isaiah 42:8)
- The glory of the Lord is most awesome as revealed at Mt Sinai and in the temple (Exodus 24, 40).
- It represents the presence of God with His people.
- The glory of God is also tied to His great and awesome name.
- The Lord will not yield His glory to another…whether to man or an idol.
- Only the Lord is deserving of the glory that is His.
- Let us stand in awe of the glory of the Lord.
Giving glory to God
“Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare His praise in the coastlands.” (Isaiah 42:12)
- The call is given to all to give glory to the Lord.
- They are to give glory to their great and victorious God.
- For who He truly is and for what He has done (Isaiah 42:13).
- He would go forth like a mighty man.
- He would stir up His zeal like a man of war.
- The Lord would give a victorious shout.
- He would prevail over all His enemies.
- We have every reason to give glory and praise to our mighty Lord.
Created for the Lord’s glory
“Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (Isaiah 43:7)
How should we understand this idea of being created for His glory? It begins with the Lord as the Creator who lovingly created Israel (Isaiah 43:1). He formed Israel when they were still in their “mother’s womb”. He brought about their redemption as part of His plan. The Lord had already planned this before time began. The Lord called them by His name to be His…His people and children. To those whom He had called, the Lord created them for His glory. The Lord had done many wonderful things for Israel. He blessed them with His presence and protection (Isaiah 43:2). They were regarded as precious, loved and honoured (Isaiah 43:4). They were specially created for the glory of God.
In the same way, the Lord has specially created and redeemed us as His children. All the blessings of His presence and love are evident in our lives. We have been called and created for the Lord’s glory. Let us be challenged, with joy and fervour, to give glory to the Lord through our life and ministry no matter what we may face in the year ahead.
