A great Easter

We thank God for a great Easter celebration as we remember the death and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. There were a thousand voices to offer praise to the Lord. The Lord’s Word was shared with many new people in our midst. There is much for us to rejoice in. But Easter should not just be celebrated at one event. The significance of Easter should continue to fill our hearts and minds.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the brethren in Rome about many wonderful blessings that God had provided for them. These are some of them. There is no condemnation in Christ (Romans 8:1). The law of the Spirit was working in them through Christ (Romans 8:2–4). They were called the sons and heirs of God (Rom 8:14–17). How should we see these blessings?

God is on our side

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)

  1. All that God has given us indicates that He is for us.
  2. He is on our side and He will do everything to support us.
  3. The use of “if” is not to create doubt but to raise up an important realisation.
  4. There will be those who will be against us.
  5. If God is for us, then those who are against us will never prevail.
  6. The Lord, who is on our side, has provided all the blessings we need to prevail.
  7. Let us thank God that He is for us.

The gift of God

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

  1. God did an amazing act of great sacrifice when He did not spare His own Son.
  2. He delivered the Lord Jesus Christ up to die in order to save us from our sins.
  3. He was willing to give Him up for our sake.
  4. If the Lord was willing to make such a sacrifice, He would certainly give us all other blessings.
  5. Let us be assured that God would not withhold anything good for us.

The justification of God

“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.” (Romans 8:33)

  1. Some would object to the idea of us being God’s elect…seemingly excluding others.
  2. The answer that Paul gave is that it is God who justifies.
  3. He has given us our salvation…not something that we deserve.
  4. We count it our privilege and blessing that we are saved…to be among the Lord’s elect.

The intercession of the Lord Jesus Christ

“Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” (Romans 8:34)

Some may go to the extent of condemning us because of our sins. While we continue to struggle with sin, there is no condemnation in Christ (Romans 8:1). The Lord Jesus died for our sins, rose from the dead and is seated at God’s right hand. He makes intercession for us before God as our great High Priest…to speak on our behalf that He had made atonement for our sins and we stand justified. Let us renew our love for the Lord Jesus as we consider and appreciate the significance of His death and resurrection.
