The works of the Lord
We praise and thank God for a memorable 50th Anniversary celebration on Sunday. It is one of the most significant milestones in the history of Bethany…a culmination of 50 years of the works of the Lord. As a congregation of a thousand voices, it was our joy to extol and give our utmost praise to the Lord for His mighty works, which He has done locally and overseas. But what else can we see?
The challenge to see deeper
- We need to go deeper in seeing the mighty works of God.
- Our eyes ought to be challenged to see with greater understanding.
- It takes faith to see more deeply what we have experienced.
- Through the Lord’s Word, we are given a more significant and deeper perspective.
Seeing the glory of God
The challenge is to see the glory of God in His works.
1. Our glorious King (Psalm 145:1)
“I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever.”
- Behind the works of the Lord is our glorious King.
- He is the King of glory (Psalm 24:10).
- His name is also truly glorious.
- We extol our glorious King and His name, who has done great works in our midst.
2. The glorious splendour of His majesty (Psalm 145:4,5)
“One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.
I will meditate on the glorious splendour of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works.”
- The works of God are to be extolled and praised from one generation to another.
- All would declare that they have seen His mighty works.
- David saw God’s works more deeply…he saw the glorious splendour of God’s majesty.
- It is what we should be meditating on…going deeper rather than just the external.
- The works of God in Bethany also reflect the glorious splendour of His majesty.
- Let us stand in awe of the Lord’s glorious majesty.
3. The glory of the Lord’s kingdom (Psalm 145:11–13)
“They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your power, to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.”
- As Israel was seen as part of God’s kingdom, we see Bethany as part of His kingdom too.
- As we speak of the Lord’s mighty works in Bethany, we see the glorious kingdom of God.
- His kingdom is full of glorious power…that no other kingdoms can display.
- His kingdom reflects His glorious majesty…that is unmatched by any other.
- His kingdom is everlasting…that will last throughout the generations.
- We exalt the Lord’s glorious majesty of His kingdom…a majesty that we see in Bethany.
Let us be challenged to stand in awe of and extol our glorious King, who has shown the glorious splendour of His majesty in His works in Bethany, and who rules His glorious and everlasting kingdom with great power and might.
