Seek The LORD

The challenge to seek
This year’s Family Camp theme was “Seek the LORD”. We tend to assume that if we are sincere in seeking the Lord, we will easily find Him. The prophet Hosea gave a sobering thought…if we are in sin and far away from God, we cannot assume that as we seek Him, we will find Him (Hosea 5:6). There is a prescribed way to seek God.
Four Divine laws
There are four Divine laws that help us understand how we ought to seek the Lord.
1. Retrospection
“They do not consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness; now their own deeds have surrounded them; they are before My face.” (Hosea 7:2)
- God practised retrospection as He spoke to Israel through Hosea.
- He remembered the many sins that Israel had done in the past.
- Some of the sins highlighted were
- Departing from God (Hosea 1:2)
- Stubbornness (Hosea 4:16)
- Rebellion (Hosea 4:18)
- Pride (Hosea 5:5)
- The challenge is for us to review our lives and uncover the deep-seated sins that plague us.
2. Recompense
“The days of punishment have come; the days of recompense have come. Israel knows!” (Hosea 9:7)
- Recompense can be seen in two ways.
- It is to reward those who are righteous.
- It is also to punish those who are wicked and evil.
- Israel knew of God’s impending judgment as many prophets had warned them before.
- This was because of their great iniquity and enmity against God (Hosea 9:7).
- He would chastise Israel out of His love for her.
- The Lord’s recompense will cause us to see the Lord as judge and fear Him.
3. Return
- The Lord gave a call for Israel to return to Him (Hosea 14:1).
- They were to take words with them as they returned.
- To plead with the Lord to take away all iniquity (Hosea 14:2).
- To humbly ask the Lord to receive them graciously (Hosea 14:2).
- To offer genuine worship to the Lord (Hosea 14:2).
- There must be a change of heart concerning the sins in their lives (Hosea 14:3).
- Let us be challenged to genuinely and humbly return to the Lord with a change of heart.
4. Restoration
If Israel were to return to the Lord indeed, He promised to bring about restoration…a revival and renewal of the hearts and minds of people. He would heal the backsliding of His people (Hosea 14:4). He would also love Israel freely and not be angry with her anymore (Hosea 14:4). The Lord would refresh them as the dew in the morning and help them to grow significantly (Hosea 4:5–7). God would do a restorative and renewal work that is deep and long-lasting. Let us seek the Lord for His restorative work in our lives to be deep, life-changing and lasting.
