The Worth Of Wisdom

Appreciate the value of wisdom

There are many valuable things in this world. Many will do everything they can to pursue these precious things. Yet, many do not see the true value of wisdom and it is often taken for granted. The problem is that we do not see its importance as part and parcel of our daily way of life…in what we say or do, and as a result, we lack the motivation to seek wisdom consistently as we ought to. Have we truly appreciated the value of wisdom in our lives and ministries? Let us consider the crucial need for wisdom in our lives.

What wisdom will always speak

1. Excellent things (Proverbs 8:6)

1. Wisdom speaks nothing less than what is excellent.
2. It is worthwhile for us to listen carefully to wisdom and to speak accordingly.

2. Right things (Proverbs 8:6,9)

1. Wisdom will always speak that which is right.
2. Her words will never be wrong.

3. Truth (Proverbs 8:7)

1. Wisdom will ensure that truth is only spoken, which is what we also ought to speak.
2. Nothing false will come from her mouth.

4. Righteousness (Proverbs 8:8)

1. Wisdom’s words are filled with righteousness.
2. Let us be challenged to appreciate the high worth of wisdom.

What wisdom will never say or do

1. Wickedness

“Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.” (Proverbs 8:7)

1. Wisdom will never say or do anything that is wicked.
2. She will regard wickedness as an abomination to her lips.

2. Crooked or perverse

“Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.” (Proverbs 8:8)

1. Wisdom will also never say anything crooked or perverse.
2. She is void of such evil ways.

The worth of wisdom

The author of Proverbs made comparisons to accentuate the worth of wisdom.

1. Instruction (wisdom) is better than silver (Proverbs 8:10).
2. Knowledge (wisdom) is also better than choice gold (Proverbs 8:10).
3. Wisdom is better than rubies (Proverbs 8:11).
4. Wisdom is better than all things we may desire: “And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.” (Proverbs 8:11).

There is nothing on this earth that is of greater worth than wisdom.

The challenge to seek wisdom

Let us be challenged to appreciate the great worth of wisdom…that is far more valuable than the precious and costly things on this earth. Wisdom is filled with things that are excellent, right, true and righteous. No other wisdom can be compared to the wisdom that comes from the Lord. Let us be challenged to desire and seek after wisdom more than the things of the world.
