Lessons of 2022
Time has passed us by all too quickly. As we come to the end of 2022, let us ask ourselves some vital questions, “How has this year been for us? What vital lessons have we gained as we reflect on the year?”
The lessons we have learnt from Psalm 119 should not be just theoretical knowledge but also lessons that should become integrated into our lives, helping us walk with the Lord and growing our faith in the challenges of life and ministry.
1. Seeking the Lord each day
- A key lesson we learnt at YAG was the need to seek the Lord.
- The Psalmist saw how others sought the Lord with their whole heart (Psalm 119:2).
- He learnt to do the same in seeking the Lord (Psalm 119:10).
- Over the year, I have learnt that it is not just about studying His Word; my study must lead me to the Lord Himself.
- It is to have a deeper understanding of who God is and what He has done.
- Each morning, I give time to ruminate over the Lord’s Word, memorise it and pray over it as I learn to seek Him wholeheartedly.
- The focus is more on knowing God personally rather than just having more knowledge.
2. The illumination of God’s Word
- A vital lesson is understanding how the Word of God gives illumination (Psalm 119:105).
- The imagery of the lamp and light is symbolic of illumination.
- The Word of God gave enlightenment to the Psalmist in making decisions.
- There comes a greater understanding and depth concerning life and its challenges.
- The illumination of the Word gives greater direction in all areas of life.
- In this past year, I had to make several important decisions.
- The Word of God has been vital in giving me the wisdom and understanding to make good decisions.
- Without the Lord’s Word, we would be groping in the dark and lacking direction.
- Let us thank God for His Word that illuminates our way, especially in facing the challenges of life and ministry.
3. The Lord as our hiding place
- Another vital lesson was appreciating the Lord as our hiding place (Psalm 119:114).
- The Psalmist learnt to exercise faith and turn to God in times of affliction.
- God was his hiding place, a secret place of His presence.
- When I was having an extremely bad bout of violent coughing not long ago, I humbly sought the Lord as my hiding place.
- During the night seasons and when the coughing did not stop, I promptly turned to Him as my hiding place and found much comfort in His presence.
- The Lord lovingly helped me through those difficult nights.
- Let us be challenged to look to the Lord as our hiding place in times of affliction.
Let us give time to review and be grateful to the Lord for the vital and uplifting lessons that have become so much more real and part of our lives in 2022.
