Preparing for Family Camp 2018
In less than two weeks, we will be having our Family Camp 2018. The theme for this year is “Walk in the light of the Lord.” This is indeed a most apt theme for us to focus on as we live in a world that is full of darkness and there is a great need for us to find light for our lives and in our service for the Lord. The camp will be a vital time for us to check our lives…by asking ourselves these pertinent questions.
- What is our understanding of walking in the light?
- Are we truly walking in the light of the Lord?
- Have we allowed darkness to adversely affect our life?
- Are we serving with the light that we are meant to have?
These are but some relevant questions for us to begin considering this theme with as we prepare our hearts for camp.
A divine source of light
“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Ps 119:105)
One key source of light that we should depend on is the Word of God. The psalmist wrote that the Word of God is a lamp…an imagery of a source of light. The lamp would give light to our pathway…so that we may be able to walk with a sense of direction. The light will dissipate the darkness and we are able to see the path and to walk accordingly.
The Word of God as a divine source of light gives understanding, “The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” (Ps 119:130) Even at the onset of just reading the Word of God, there is light that is already given. Furthermore, the Word can give further enlightenment and greater depth of understanding. Let us be challenged to look to the Lord’s Word as a most important source of light.
The light of the Lord’s Word in the midst of afflictions
The psalmist reveals how the light of the Word of God is crucial in the midst of afflictions, “I am afflicted very much;” (Ps 119:107) It is when we are going through the afflictions of life that we are faced with darkness. We are confronted with the darkness of the pain of our afflictions, of being totally wearied out and greatly discouraged by our difficulties and not having the necessary understanding to walk through and overcome our problems.
The great light of the Lord’s word can help us through our afflictions by bringing about a revival to our heart and soul, “I am afflicted very much; revive me, O Lord, according to Your Word.” (Ps 119:107) The psalmist pleaded for a revival according to the Lord’s Word. It is the light of the Scriptures that would make us come alive and create this spiritual revival in us. Only the light of His Word can give us the uplift and strength to cope with our afflictions. This is what we hope to gain at the Family Camp…to be enlightened by the Word of God. Let us be challenged to walk in the light of the Lord’s Word to face these challenges.
Walk according to the light of the Lord’s Word
There is no better way to walk in this world than to walk in the light of the Word of God. Let us be challenged to deal with the darkness that may have filled our lives with the light of the Lord and His Word. When we go through the afflictions of life, let us be challenged to walk in the light of the Lord’s Word. Let us be challenged to go deeper in our understanding of the Scriptures and to discover its light.
