Preparing for Family Camp 2019
In a few days’ time, Family Camp will commence. We are all greatly excited that Family Camp is here once again and we are looking forward to a wonderful time of deep learning and a joyful time of fellowshipping together.
It is vital that we seek to prepare ourselves for camp. We should take time to reflect on what Pastor Charles taught us about the theme…“Wells of salvation” at the Pre-camp Special to gear our thoughts towards the camp. These are some thoughts for us to reflect on.
Thoughts to reflect on
1. Reasons for having this family camp
We need to be clear as to what our personal reasons are for coming for this family camp. We may have all kinds of reasons. But these are some special reasons for us to consider.
a. Discovery of more knowledge of God
Our knowledge of God should continue to grow. There is much for us to discover about God.
b. Developing a deeper understanding of the Lord…of His ways and His works
Let us not just remain satisfied with our present understanding of God. Let us be challenged to grow deeper in our understanding of God…especially of what the Lord can do in our life.
c. Deepening our level of faith in God
Let us ensure that we do not have a shallow faith but to seek to deepen our faith…that we may be able to face the challenges of life. Let us seek to become people of greater depth.
d. Determination to relate to God better
At the Family Camp, we hope to take time to relate to God far more significantly…to commune with Him and to draw closer to Him.
2. The fountain of living waters
One of the wells of salvation that we can draw upon is God Himself. The prophet Jeremiah describes Him as the fountain of living waters, “For My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.” (Jer 2:13) The people of God had chosen to forsake the Lord and they had departed from Him. He was meant to be their fountain of living waters…where they can find spiritual water to be refreshed and to be given life. But they sought to turn to their own source of water. They had hewn for themselves broken cisterns that could hold no water. These broken cisterns did not give strength and life in anyway. Let us be challenged to return to our God…the fountain of living waters to be made spiritually alive again.
3. God of my salvation
“I need to be saved.” Maybe it has been a long while since such a thought came across our mind. But if we were to check our own life honestly, we would recognise our need to be saved in one way or another. Only the God of our salvation can save us. (Isa 12:2) Let us be challenged to ready ourselves for camp…to come to God as the fountain of living water and to be saved that we may have life.
