A Quiet Time
How do you start your day? Do you have a strict routine to keep to in order to get ready for school or work?
In Psalm 5: 1-3, it says,
Give ear to my words, O LORD,
Consider my meditation.
Give heed to the voice of my cry,
My King and my God,
For to You I will pray.
My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up.”
Ever since I learned this passage, I would start each morning by spending time with the Lord. I’ve discovered that how I start my morning determines how my day is and affects the spirit with which I face the day.
When I start my mornings meditating on God, His word and the lessons He is trying to teach me, my heart and mind are attuned and focused. Throughout the day, I would find my thoughts drawing back to the word I’ve read and my actions will be a response to the same word.
When I don’t start my morning in quiet time with the Lord, more often that not I would find myself flustered, flighty and floundering.
The quiet time in the mornings also draws me nearer to God. As I cry out to Him for His grace, strength and wisdom to face each day, my relationship with Him is strengthened and deepened.
I have a note taking bible that is filled with illustrations of verses that have become real and significant to me. This is a picture of an illustration in that bible. I use this bible in the morning and it reminds myself what a privilege it is for me to have this access to God and His word. This thought becomes the anchor that steadies me as I face the challenges of the everyday.
