“At Your Rebuke They Fled”

Who was the one who set the boundaries between the seas and the land? It was none other than the Lord God Himself. This was a picture taken in the evening at Augusta, Australia. It was stunning to see the waves crashing onto the rocks and no matter how many times they did it, they just cannot go beyond that boundary set by the Lord. It is truly an amazing thing to see how God had created the shore line for every land mass.
You who laid the foundation of the earth, so that it should not be moved forever, you covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At Your rebuke they fled; at the voice of Your thunder they hastened away. They went up over the mountains. They went down to the valley, to the place which You founded them. You have set boundary that they may not return to cover the earth.” Psalm 104:5-9
In the beginning, when the earth was created, it was totally covered with water. The waters were so deep that it covered all the mountains. When the Lord said the word (Gen 1:9-10), the waters retreated into seas and oceans. It was as if the waters heard the Lord speak and they fled from Him and gathered into the valleys. God in a great and awesome manner set boundaries to the seas and the lands of the earth. This has become known as the shoreline. God’s word is truly powerful. All He had to do was rebuked the water and it fled. Let’s believe fully that it was the Lord who created the shoreline and His word cannot be changed.
BLESSED THE LORD O MY SOUL
Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty…” Psalm 104:1
Without a doubt, the Lord God is clothed with great honour and majesty. It must have been very spectacular to see the water recede when the Lord gave the command. When He spoke with a voice of a thunder, the waters hastened away. Only the Lord God would be able to change the foundations of the earth. He is indeed a very great and glorious God. There is none other like Him. Therefore, our response to the Lord should be one of awe and soul-felt praise and honour to Him. The Psalmist sought to give praise to the Lord and His glory. The Lord had filled his soul with awesome thoughts of His creation and provision that he could not but blessed the Lord with his soul. May the Lord who created all things on the earth including the shoreline fill our hearts with great awe for Him and let’s respond to Him by offering soul-felt praise to His glory.
